Top UBS lawyer Bernhard Schmid joins Swiss firm Kuoni
The head of UBS AG’s legal department, left the Swiss bank to become a partner at a Zurich law firm Kuoni Attorneys at Law. Founding partner Wolfram Kuoni is a former investment banker who left UBS in 2005 to start the firm. Schmid was one of three in-house attorneys tasked with sharing the role of the bank's top lawyer on an interim basis after former general counsel Peter Kurer was confirmed as UBS's new chairman in 2008. In 2009, UBS was foreced to disclose the names of 52,000 wealthy American clients suspected of tax evasion through UBS’s private bank.
