Lovells Beijing chief moves with the times
Robert Lewis, the managing partner of the Beijing office of Lovells, has announced plans to leave the firm to take up a post as head of international practice at Allbright’s Beijing office. Lewis will start work with Allbright on 1 May, the same day that Hogan Lovells comes into being via a merger between Hogan & Hartson and Lovells. Lewis has said that the move was not related to the impending merger, but rather was a response to changing market conditions. He says that there is a huge market shift towards local law firms, who are increasingly capable of providing high quality service and breadth, generally offer services at lower prices, and do not suffer from market barriers. Lewis recognised that ‘services provided by local law firms are not always 100% satisfactory’, and revealed an interest in taking advantage of the opportunities that exist between the offerings of international firms and local firms.
