Norton Rose maintains salary freeze for newly qualified lawyers

Norton Rose has unfrozen salaries – for all its associates except for newly qualified lawyers – for the first time since all salaries were frozen in 2009. While first year associates (the only lawyers in the firm that have set salary rates) will continue to receive pay of £59,000, other associates were given discretionary pay reviews under the merit-based salary system introduced in 2008. The firm declined to disclose how much their top-earning associates now earn. London HR head Lak Purewal said: "We feel that these rates are competitive. We have seen the levels that the magic circle firms have announced and their newly-qualified rates are there or thereabouts."
