Baker & McKenzie appoint Brazilian lawyer to global chair

US-based Baker & McKenzie has called upon a Brazilian energy lawyer to become the firm’s global chairman. Eduardo Leite is currently based in the Sao Paulo office, heading the firm’s international energy and mining practice as well as the Brazilian offices, and is set to take the leading role at the end of October. He replaces John Conroy Jr, a US lawyer who has been chairman for two terms since 1998. Mr Conroy commented: “I will be delighted to pass the baton in October to my good friend and colleague, Eduardo Leite. Having had the privilege to work closely with Eduardo over many years, I know that he is eminently well-qualified and a proven leader – a terrific choice to take our Firm forward. He has my warmest congratulations on his well-deserved election."
