German firm Graf von Westphalen loses Cologne and Freiburg offices

German firm Graf von Westphalen has seen a major split, with the Cologne and Freiburg offices separating from the firm. The group of 50 lawyers, including 25 partners and founding partner Friedrich Graf von Westphalen, intend to create a new partnership effective 1 January 2011, citing conflicting ideas about the firm's strategy. In a statement the Cologne and Freiburg offices said: "The decision was not an easy one to make, but we are convinced that our new orientation and our markedly entrepreneurial approach will enable us to better meet the needs of our clients and give our good associates true partnership prospects. This corresponds to a sustainable approach for the firm."
