US firm Kobre & Kim set to launch HK office

New York firm Kobre & Kim is set to launch its Hong Kong practice in September after the hire of William McGovern, formerly the Executive Director of the Morgan Stanley’s Hong Kong practice. McGovern will head the firm’s Hong Kong office to target Asian clients in disputes with US regulators or global banks. Firm founder Steven Kobre said: “There is a real demand in Asia for a law firm willing to take an adverse position against larger companies”. He added that the firm doesn’t have a corporate practice and doesn’t need repeat business from large financial institutions, giving them the freedom to pursue claims against large companies and financial institutions.
