Sidley & Austin's DC office not interested in 'sharp-elbow' recruits

Cut-throat lawyers need not apply Sidley & Austin’s Washington DC office. Karen Popp, the DC hiring partner for the firm, has indicated that an aggressive competitive behaviour among colleagues has no place at the firm. Ms Popp said: “We pride ourselves on our collegial and collaborative environment”. She added: “We look for lawyers who are not sharp-elbow types, who show maturity and good judgment. We give them a lot of responsibility early on.” Popp expands upon what she looks for during interviews with candidates, saying that a lot of information about personality emerges from the way a person talks about their past work experience.
