King & Spalding is set to open a new office in Singapore after winning government approval. The Singapore office will operate as a regional hub for the firm’s energy and international arbitration practices. The new office is led by global energy head Philip R Weems, who will be joined by international transactions lawyer Daniel R Rogers, and international arbitration specialist John Savage. The Singapore team’s arbitration docket currently includes a large arbitration for a US multinational corporation against a Middle Eastern partner, a dispute between a major oil company and an Asian state, an ad hoc arbitration in the shipping sector and an arbitration for a private equity house against Pakistani parties.
