Singapore Firm Rajah & Tann makes plans for expansion

Singapore firm Rajah & Tann has appointed Lee Eng Beng to the role of managing partner. Senior Counsel Lee will take up the position on 1 October, and plans to commence a regional push with the aim of increasing the proportion of turnover derived overseas to 50% in five years. The 300-lawyer strong firm has dedicated practice groups with lawyers qualified to practice in China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Indochina. Lee intends to add new offices in Vietnam and Cambodia, and to beef up the firm’s presence in Malaysia and China. The firm also has its eye on the Middle East market in light of the flood of investment capital flowing from Asia to the region. Lee has said: “Southeast Asia comes first, but the Middle East will follow quite closely behind.”
