Canadian firm Bennett Jones opens office in Beijing

Bennett Jones has opened the doors to a new office in Beijing – its first branch outside of Canada. The firm specializes in the oil and gas business, and will cater to Chinese clients shopping for Canadian natural resources, alongside other business. It seems the firm has its eyes on takeover of Potash Corp of Saskatchewan: managing partner Hugh MacKinnon has confirmed that the firm is turning down potential clients in order to remain free of conflicts of interest so it could choose to act for a major bidder that emerges to compete with BHP Billiton Ltd in its US$38.6-billion takeover bid.
