US firm Husch Blackwell lays off 20 lawyers

US firm Husch Blackwell, based in Kansas city, has confirmed that it has laid off 20 lawyers, including associates and non-equity partners. The lawyers affected reportedly failed to meet billing targets in 2009. This latest round of layoffs follows an earlier cutback in March 2009, when the firm let go 17 lawyers and 45 staffers. The firm had a gross revenue of $289 million in 2009, and profits for each of the firm's 170 equity partners were $565,000, down 11 per cent from the previous year.
