Cravath Swaine & Moore gives pro bono bankruptcy advice to US municipality

Cravath Swaine & Moore is set to work pro bono for the city of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, offering its bankruptcy to advise its city council concerning a potential municipal bankruptcy filing. Harrisburg is currently having trouble repaying debt on a $300 million incinerator. Rich Levin, the head of Cravath’s bankruptcy department, said that the firm wanted to be a part of this case because municipal bankruptcy is a challenging and difficult legal issue that rarely crops up. He added that a city with a population of 45,000 and $300 million in debt is in particular need of pro bono help.
