Law Society of England & Wales urges India to allow operation of foreign law firms
Minister of Law and Justice, Veerappa Moily, has once again rejected appeals for a loosening of the ban on foreign law firms working within India. At the Global LPO Conference held over the weekend Alison Hook, Head of International Division of the Law Society of England & Wales, said “We travel often to India to discuss the entry of foreign law firms, it’s always on our agenda”. Minister Moily said: “The Bar Council of India, under Section 47(2) of the said Act, on reciprocal basis may prescribe the conditions, if any, subject to which foreign qualifications in law obtained by persons other than citizens of India shall be recognized for the purpose of admission as an advocate under this Act”.
