ELP invited to draft Competition law for Afghanistan
Economic Laws Practice (ELP) along with the Adam Smith Institute, which is the UK’s leading libertarian think tank have been invited by the Government of Afghanistan to help draft its Competition law. Speaking to Bar & Bench, Partner Samir Gandhi said, “The assignment involves an evaluation of Afghanistan's existing competition policy and suggesting a modern-day competition law which would assist the Government in transitioning to a free market economy. Naturally there are several challenges for the Afghan economy at this stage and we will need to ensure that the new law is modern and based on the effects doctrine, but at the same time is simple enough to implement and enforce in the prevailing economic environment”.
