What can we learn from this year's promotions?

The article looks at promotions at Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz, Cravath, Swaine & Moore, Sullivan & Cromwell, Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, Davis Polk & Wardwell, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, Weil Gotshal & Manges, Williams & Connolly, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and Covington & Burling.

While the M&A powerhouse Wachtell Lipton made up no new partners this year, Sullivan & Cromwell seemed very healthy with eight new partners – up five from last year’s promotion round.
Simpson Thacher has directed rewards to its corporate department, with five of the seven new partners in that group, while Weil Gotshal – a firm legendary for its bankruptcy practice – has promoted no new partners in the bankruptcy group.
