US law firms look to emerging markets

The US market promises little growth this year, and law firms are looking to expand in the so-called BRIC countries - Brazil, Russia, India and China – along with countries like South Africa, Australia and Canada, according to a Law360 report. The report predicts that Hong Kong - as the gateway to Shanghai and Beijing - will see a lot of legal activity and at least 11 new law offices in 2011. Brazil is an attractive destination for firms, because the country is sepnding on massive infrastructure projects while realising wealth from rich mineral deposits. Canada and Australia are attractive because they are key trading partners with China and other BRIC countries.
