Australian judge warns of the rise of legal process outsourcing

January 31, 2011 Respected jurist Chief Justice Jim Spigelman, of the New South Wales Supreme Court in Australia, has warned Australian commercial lawyers that outsourcing legal services to will fundamentally change the industry.

The Chief Justice said he had warned previously about the need to control legal costs and had frequently said that "the legal profession in Australia is in danger of killing the goose".

The Judge also noted that the imminent changes in the Australian legal industry will not be limited to legal process outsourcing, as Indian firms increasingly offer high end legal services such as contract writing and review.
