Things are looking up: demand for legal services increases in the US

Demand for legal services in the US increased in the fourth quarter of 2010 for the first time in more than two years, according to a report by Hildebrandt Baker Robbins. There was a one per cent increase in the number of billable hours in the fourth quarter compared with a year earlier, with litigation work increasing by two per cent and transactional output rising by five per cent.. “Firms have begun to step up their hiring of new associates,” Mark Medici of Hildebrandt said in a statement. “Many firms are beginning to switch from defense to offense as the economy improves.”
