9 partners leave Australian firm before merger with DLA Piper
A group of nine partners is set to leave Australian firm DLA Phillips Fox ahead of the merger with DLA Piper. The group includes Philip Byrnes, James Daniel, Philip Dowling and Eugene Fung from the corporate group, Ron Eames, Michael Marshall and Chris O'Shea from real estate, finance and projects partner Andrew Kelly and intellectual property and technology partner Tony Conaghan. The nine Brisbane-based partners are understood to be joining domestic firm Thomsons Lawyers. DLA Piper joint chief executive and managing partner Nigel Knowles said: "I'm assuming that this small number of partners would prefer to be part of a smaller domestic firm and have decided to use this opportunity to rebase themselves. We wish them the best of luck for the future."
