Wragge & Co to pay former client £7.5 in damages for professional negligence
Wragge & Co has been found guilty of professional negligence and ordered to pay damages of over £7.5m to former client Amalgamated Metal Corporation (AMC).
The High Court (UK) judgment upheld AMC's claim that Wragges failed to give appropriate advice and acted without authorisation in the settlement of a tax dispute with HM Revenue & Customs in 2003.
AMC was advised by Farrer & Co litigation partner Adrian Parkhouse and disputes associate Michael Patrick, along with counsel Ben Hubble QC and Scott Allen of Four New Square.
Wragges was advised by Barlow Lyde & Gilbert professional and commercial disputes partner Richard Harrison and associate Niya Phiri, with counsel Justin Fenwick QC and Graham Chapman, also of Four New Square.
