US firms increase presence in China

US firms are increasing their presence in China, with the top 250 US firms running 70 offices in China at the end of 2010. According to the National Law Journal, these firms have 2,055 lawyers in China, and the firms with the strongest presence are Baker & McKenzie (262 lawyers), Mayer Brown (205), DLA Piper (112), and Reed Smith (108). Legal consultant Peter Zeughauser said that foreign firms are likely to increase their presence in China, and will eventually place more lawyers in the country than in the UK, as China’s economy will become more attractive. "I do think that China is the fastest-growing legal market in the world”, he said.
