A new leader for the NY federal public defender’s office
New York’s federal public defender’s office has a new leader in David E. Patton, a visiting law professor at Stanford. In his new role Patton will oversee the lawyers appointed to represent defendants who cannot afford legal representation in the federal courts of Manhattan, Brooklyn, White Plains and Central Islip, NY. Patton takes over the role from Leonard F. Joy, who has led the office for 20 years. Patton said: “The office is filled with tremendously talented lawyers who dedicate themselves every day to vigorously defending poor people accused of federal crimes”. He added: “They often do so under the most trying circumstances, and my primary goal as the federal defender will be to support them in their efforts.”
