US firm shifts paralegal work from India back to the US

One of the US firms that pioneered the use of legal process outsourcing to India has taken steps to divert some of the work back to the US. In 1999 a Minneapolis-based patent prosecution boutique called Schwegman Lundberg & Woessner launched a subsidiary company, Intellevate, in India to handle paralegal tasks such as proofreading, completing foreign patent filings, back-office document review, and U.S. patent filings to India. The firm is now set to move its docketing and paralegal support services to Rapid City, South Dakota, where labor is relatively inexpensive. The move follows the June opening of a US office Indian legal process outsourcer Pangea3 in Dallas.
