Gaddafi retains Essex law firm

Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi has retained an Essex law firm Edwards Duthie to argue its claim to the London embassy. The claim alleges that representatives of the National Transitional Council are trespassing on the London embassy and consulate buildings. When asked whether Gaddafi should be afforded legal representation, Senior partner Shaun Murphy said: "I normally get asked this when I am representing murderers and rapists. I think the rule of law is that anybody is entitled to legal representation. I think any lawyer would agree with that. Libya's National Transitional Council is being advised in this matter by Hogan Lovells. A spokesman for the Council said: "Libyan embassies belong to Libyan people, and the NTC has full entitlement and authority to assume those embassies and conduct diplomatic functions in its capacity as sole legitimate representative of the Libyan people.”
