Goodwin Procter and Fulbright & Jaworski announce staff layoffs

Some law firms are still in cost cutting mode, with many making significant staff layoffs and outsourcing legal support services. Since August O’Melveny & Myers laid off 75 staff and Paul Hastings Janofsky & Walker laid of 45 staff, with both firms signing agreements with domestic outsourcing companies. Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman 44] has given the heads up that it may cut staffers who aren’t willing to relocate to its new Professional Services Center in Nashville. And now there is news of additional staff reductions at Goodwin Procter and Fulbright & Jaworski. Goodwin Procter has announced that it will outsource its Records Management and Accounts Payable functions to support services company Williams Lea, a decision that affects 11 employees in Records Management and 7 employees in Accounts Payable. The firm says that 6 of the 11 Records Management employees will accept positions with Williams Lea. Fulbright & Jaworski. Is reportedly laying off 12 of 17 receptionists in its Houston office, and a billing clerk in the Austin office. Burnett Staffing has been brought in to interview the receptionists for temporary and/or permanent positions elsewhere, and each will receive six weeks severence pay when their employment ends.
