Veteran arbitrator leaves Norton Rose, citing post-merger conflicts of interest

The chairman emeritus at Norton Rose is leaving the firm, citing conflicts of interest. Chairman emeritus L. Yves Fortier joined the firm know as Ogilvy Renault 50 years ago, and he is the most high profile lawyer to leave the firm after its merger with Norton Rose in 2010. Norman Steinberg, the chairman of Norton Rose, says that in the year since Ogilvy joined forces with Norton Rose, "almost any time he was asked to be an arbitrator, there were conflicts or the appearance of conflicts." Fortier, Steinberg says, "realized that the situation is really impossible for him."
