Lawyers and law firms favour democrats in US presidential race

Here is an interesting article in the Washington Post that takes a look at which US presidential candidates are receiving the most campaign contributions from the US legal industry. Lawyers and law firms have favoured President Obama in making campaign contributions - pouring $4.1 million into the president’s re-election campaign, which is more than double the $1.7 million received from the industry by the four leading Republican candidates combined. Michael Beckel, spokesperson for the government watchdog group Center for Responsive Politics that reported the figures, said that the Democrats have long found support in the legal industry: “Obama is not unique in that respect. If you look back, about 70 percent of the money the legal industry donates within a particular cycle benefits Democrats opposed to Republicans.”
