Indian law firm M.V. Kini & Co takes on 2 new partners
M.V. Kini & Co has boosted capacity with two new hires - tax partner Shrikant Kamat will be joining the firm’s Mumbai office and corporate partner Ram Varma joins the firm as practice leader of both the Hyderabad office and the Bangalore office.
Shrikant leaves a job at World Trade Laws, a start up firm providing advice on international trade, and he has previously worked at BMR Advisors and Ernst & Young.
Ram leaves behind a job as head of the Legal Department of Jumbo Group – India, and has previously for FoxMandal and Shaw Wallace. This will be his second term of employment with M.V. Kini & Co; his previous stint with the firm lasted over seven years.
Ram said, “I wanted to move back to Hyderabad for personal reasons and also wanted to get back into the mainstream at the earliest. I got in touch with my peers in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai and realized that South India as a whole is far away from Mumbai and Delhi in terms of penetration of law firms and areas of practice. During my preliminary meeting with Ravi Kini, we discussed this issue and I learned that Ravi Kini is quite keen on building a team in the South. That apart Kini & Co. has over the years developed niche in the South handling Banking, Infrastructure, Real Property Law and Litigation and I thought it was a great opportunity for me to develop the Corporate advisory and Taxation Law practice of the firm in South India”.
