Yale Law School launches Ph.D. program

July 19, 2012 Yale Law School has announced the launch of the first US Ph.D. program in Law, with the aim of preparing law students for a career in legal academia. The program will focus on scholarly research and writing, and includes a teaching component.

Robert Post, dean of Yale Law, explained that institutions of legal scholarship are increasingly looking for candidates with a Ph.D. He said: “You have to come in now with a portfolio of writing”, adding: “People require you to show your abilities as a scholar by what you’ve written. Where do you get that training?”
