County attorney threatens to quit over pay dispute

The highest paid public servant in Jefferson County is threatening to quit over a pay dispute. County Attorney Jeff Sewell is asking for the merit raise due to him under a resolution passed by the previous County Commission. The raise would add about $30,000 annually to Sewell’s current salary of $375,000. Sewell means business: according to reports his boxes are packed and his desk has been cleaned, but talks to resolve the pay dispute are expected to continue through next week.
