30% vacancy on the bench in India's high courts
57 new judges have been appointed across India’s 21 high courts this year, but significant judicial vacancies remain high, with 30 per cent of the 895 judges’ posts remaining vacant. 275 out of 895 sanctioned judge-posts remain unfilled according to statistics released by the Department of Justice in the Ministry of Law and Justice. The highest rate of vacancy is at Allahabad high court, which has 76 vacant posts out of the 160 sanctioned judicial jobs.
