Australian firm Allens appoints Chairman of Partners
Allens has appointed Ian Wallace to the role of chairman of partners, effective 1 January 2013. Wallace has been with the firm for 31 years.
He noted that strengthening the relationship with merger partner Linklaters will be a key focus of his new role. He argues that the six-month old relationship has been profitable for both firms: “For Allens and for our clients the alliance has already been hugely successful and productive. We have bid for major pieces of work jointly with Linklaters now on a large number of occasions and have won more than our fair share of those assignments,” he said, adding that clients love the access to global capabilities as well as the fact that Allens is still an independent firm and can make decisions locally “without having to refer every decision to somewhere offshore”.
Wallace indicated that he will continue his practice alongside his new responsibilities: “The managing partner has full responsibility for the day-to-day management of the firm; the chairman role is quite different. It has couple of key aspects: internally, in chairing partner meetings and chairing and running the operation of our board, and externally there’s an important representation role,” he said.
