Squire Sanders build antitrust practice in DC

January 18, 2013 Squire Sanders has given a significant boost to its antitrust practice with the hire of three senior antitrust attorneys from Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld in Washington DC. The additions bring Squire’s antitrust team to a headcount of nine.

The team includes Akin Gump’s top antitrust partner, Mark Botti, along with partners J. Brady Dugan and Anthony Swisher.

The hires are part of the firm’s strategy of strengthening regulatory practices around the globe in anticipation of more government scrutiny of mergers.

“One thing that’s happening in the world is that there’s enhanced regulatory scrutiny over what businesses are doing,” said Jim Maiwurm, Squire Sanders' chair and global CEO. “Because we think the regulatory scheme is going to become more complex and daunting for clients, they’ll be turning to us more and more often. Antitrust is a natural area of focus.”
