Not much transactional work in Australia's big cities

January 30, 2013 A new survey shows poor recruitment prospects for transaction and finance lawyers working in Australia’s two biggest cities - Sydney and Melbourne.

The report - a quarterly offering from recruitment firm Hays Legal - pointed out that despite the sluggish growth in Sydney and Melbourne there is a nationwide trend of increasing demand for dispute resolution lawyers.

“As companies struggle to pay bills, with everybody focused on revenue, they are trying to recover money any way they can and, inevitably, that will lead to more disputes,” said Hays’ legal director, Darren Buchanan. “People are more likely to chase every penny in the tough times we have seen on the eastern seaboard recently.”
