ABA promotes access to civil justice with grants

March 23, 2013 The American Bar Association has announced grants to courts and legal groups in five states with the goal of promoting Access to Justice Commissions in states where they do not already exist.

Access to Justice Commissions, operating in twenty-seven states and Washington DC, support pro se litigants, develop pro bono initiatives, promote collaboration among civil legal-aid providers, and increase awareness of the legal needs of low-income people.

The groups receiving the grants are: the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education, the Supreme Court of Ohio, the Supreme Court of Oklahoma, the Philadelphia Bar Association, and the Rhode Island Judiciary.
