New judge appointed to Supreme Court of India

March 26, 2013 The Supreme Court of India has appointed a new judge, elevating the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Arjan Kumar Sikri. The Supreme Court collegium approved his nomination the appointment is set to be made after the completion of a few official formalities.

Sikri has acted as Judge of the High Court of Delhi since July 1999. He was made the Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court in October 2011 and was appointed to the role of Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court in September 2012.

The appointment brings the total number of judges in the Supreme Court to 28.
