Petition seeks increase in pay for Indian judges

April 18, 2013 The Delhi High Court is hearing a petition seeking an increase in the salaries of Supreme Court and High Court judges in India. The petition was filed by Deepak Khosla, and the respondents are the Union of India, the Supreme Court and the High Courts. The matter is being heard by a Division Bench comprising of Justices Pratibha Rani and Pradeep Nadrajog.

Khosla has sought the following salaries for judges:

Chief Justice of India:    Rs. 30 lakh per month

Judges of the Supreme Court:    Rs. 24 lakh per month

Chief Justice of a High Court:    Rs. 24 lakh per month

Judges of a High Court:    Rs. 21 lakh per month
