Citibank India hires IndusLaw partner as GC
IndusLaw’s Mumbai office, as its new general counsel.
Rao will take up the role in July, leading a team of around 18 India-based lawyers. He takes over from Sandip Beri, who resigned to return to private practice last month.
Rao was previously the general counsel at ICICI Bank, a job he left to go into private practice as an equity partner at IndusLaw. He says that he underestimated the stress that comes with private practice, and that he is more comfortable in an in-house role.
IndusLaw partner Kartik Ganapathy said: “It was wonderful when Pramod reached out and said he wanted to be a part of IndusLaw. We did realise that Pramod remained an in-house person at heart, but would try to make the transition. It has been great working with him, and we hope that this will continue. It is unfortunate that Pramod took this step, but we wish Pramod all the best in his future endeavours.”
