Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge Launches UK Patent Practice
The international law firm of Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge (“EAPD”, formerly Kendall Freeman in London) today announced that Life Sciences specialist and European Patent Attorney Dr. Candi Soames has joined the firm as a partner in London. She was formerly a partner at patent firm D Young & Co. Soames joins with a team of four paralegals to launch EAPD's European patent practice, specialising in biotechnology and life sciences. For regulatory reasons, Soames will be a partner in a separate UK LLP called EAPD Innovations LLP, through which the firm's European patent attorneys will practice. The announcement of Soames' appointment is the firm’s second hire in London since the merger with Kendall Freeman became effective on 1 January 2008. "This underlines our commitment to the life sciences practice in Europe," said Laurence Harris, Partner-in-Charge of EAPD's London office. "We see very significant opportunities for a practice of lawyers and patent attorneys focussing together in the life sciences area in Europe, reflecting the existing US strength of the firm. IP and particularly life sciences is a hugely strong area for the firm in the US, and we are very excited about building strength for this practice in London. Growing this practice is key to our strategy; we are delighted that Candi has agreed to join us,” he added.
