Texas law firm Burleson grew on oil and gas

July 3, 2013 Burleson LLP has grown from a tiny Houston outfit to a 135-lawyer firm with offices in five cities across three US states by focussing solely on oil and gas work.

Starting from the office in Houston in 2005, founder Rick Burleson expanded into regions where energy firms were just beginning to exploit shale oil and gas reserves. The firm established offices in Pittsburgh in 2009, San Antonio in 2010, Denver in 2011 and Midland, Texas, last year.

Miriam Westmoreland, Burleson's director of marketing and recruiting, attributed the firm's success to its founder's foresight: “A lot of people want to be at the right place at the right time," she said. "A lot of people sit around after and say, 'Where was I?' In this case, Rick was at the right place at the right time."
