Real estate lawyers launch boutique in San Diego

July 18, 2013 Five real estate partners have departed Allen Matkins Leck Gamble Mallory & Natsis to launch a new boutique firm in San Diego.

Partners Thomas Crosbie, Ray Gliner, Dana Schiffman, Sean Southard and Craig Swanson — each of whom are veterans of the industry with more than a decade of service at Allen Matkins — have set out on their own to launch Crosbie Gliner Schiffman Southard and Swanson. The firm will advise on commercial real estate transactions, including purchases, sales, financing, construction and leasing, and they intend to offer cost-conscious clients a service at lower fees than their biglaw rivals.

"Being with a larger firm, there was increasing pressure to raise rates," Schiffman said. "Yet we're feeling just the opposite pressure from our clients."

The firm intends to achieve economies via outsourcing and a cloud-based server, with fees at least 20 percent lower than those at Allen Matkins.
