This general counsel earned $10.9m last year

July 19, 2013 Corporate Counsel has published the results of its annual survey of in-house lawyer compensation. The highest paid general counsel in the US last year was Brackett Denniston III at General Electric, with a base salary of $1.6 million. Bonuses brought his cash compensation up to a total of $10.9 million, and he was awarded another $2 million or so in stock options.

The next highest compensation was offered at the in-house legal departments of CBS, the Bank of America, Time Warner and Walt Disney.

Average cash compensation among those surveyed rose nearly 7 percent to an all-time high of $1,853,671.
