King & Wood Mallesons to merge with SJ Berwin

August 1, 2013 Chinese-Australian law firm King & Wood Mallesons is set to merge with London-headquartered SJ Berwin creating a 2,700-lawyer firm with 30 offices and combined annual revenues of $1bn.

Stuart Fuller, global managing partner of King & Wood Mallesons, said that the merger “allows us to connect Asia to the world, and the world to Asia”.

SJ Berwin will lose its name and come under the banner of King & Wood Mallesons when the merger goes live in November 2013. The firm will operate as a Swiss Verein structure, such that the constituent parts of the group will not share profits.

SJ Berwin’s senior partner, Stephen Kon, will take up the role of deputy chairman of the combined entity.
