DWF's controversial pay rate disparity
Roll on Friday reports that the trainees qualifying at DWF next month will be paid more than some first and second year lawyers.
The pay disparity arises from DWF’s acquisition of Cobbetts when the latter went into administration earlier this year. Legacy Cobbetts associates with one year of post qualification experience are currently paid around £34,000, while new DWF qualifiers will be paid £36,000. According to the report, there are even some second year lawyers that aren’t earning that much.
Cobbetts lawyers have had to weather all manner of miseries since the merger deal, with several partners ejected from the partnership as well as associate redundancies.
