Washington DC law firms fall behind US average

August 29, 2013 Law firms in Washington DC have fallen behind the national average on a number of key metrics: revenue, demand, productivity and billable hours.

A new survey by Citi Private Bank Law Firm Group examined data from 172 law firms, including 12 Washington based firms.  The results of the survey are not enough to compose a comprehensive understanding of the US legal service market, but they do suggest that Washington firms are not quite as ‘recession-proof’ as some might have thought.

Law firms with Washington D.C. headquarters saw revenue drop by an average of 2.4 percent, while demand for legal services dropped by 2.5 percent, and productivity declined by 4 percent.
