MLG faces $30M lawsuit by associate claiming he spearheaded firm's success

May 19, 2008 Members of a Calgary law firm Merchant Law Group (MLG) are being sued by a former associate who claims he spearheaded their successful battle to win compensation for Indian residential school victims. Tom Stepper alleges his work and ideas led to the firm's involvement in the litigation.

The claim says Stepper invented "the concept of cultural abuse" which was pivotal in the litigation against the federal government which ultimately led to a $1.9-billion settlement nationwide.
