Herbert Smith Freehills boosts Australian offering

October 5, 2013 Herbert Smith Freehills has boosted its Australia offering with the lateral hire of two new partners.

The Sydney team will welcome corporate partner David Ryan from Baker & McKenzie, whilst the Brisbane team adds finance partner David Lyons from Norton Rose Fulbright.

Ryan was the global head of mining and metals with Baker & McKenzie, and his own energy and resources practice focussed on M&A in the electricity and gas sector.

Lyons’ practice advising financial services clients includes transactional, regulatory and corporate matters, and he has experience with infrastructure, resource and project finance, as well as regulatory, capital markets, property, acquisition, asset, agricultural and trade finance.

The firm’s Australian managing partner Jason Ricketts said the new hires were key in adding capacity to the firm's commercial practice: "Herbert Smith Freehills remains focused on ensuring we have a strong and diverse team of legal expertise to deliver perceptive commercial advice to our clients.

"We have needed to increase our resources to service clients in these areas within certain markets."
