UK firms release strong trainee retention figures

January 29, 2014 UK firms are announcing their trainee retention rates for the March 2012 intake, with Clifford Chance, Herbert Smith Freehills and Ashurst reporting solid numbers.

Clifford Chance is keeping 45 out of 48 qualifying trainees for a retention rate of 94% - the firm’s best effort since 2010. Last year Clifford Chance kept on 54 trainees out of a group of 66. Osborne Clarke and Olswang both retained 100% of trainees, with Osborne Clarke keeping six out of six, and Olswang keeping eight out of eight.

Ashurst has retained 23 out of 24 trainees for a retention rate of 96%, and Herbies improved its retention rate, keeping 38 out of 42 trainees (90%) compared to 24 out of 32 (75%) in 2013.
