Melbourne lawyer struck of for +$12m fraud

April 1, 2014 A Melbourne lawyer has been struck off the Roll of Legal Practitioners for committing fraud to the value of more than $12 million of client money.

Philip David Linacre walked into the Legal Services Board offices in Victoria to confess stealing the money through an elaborate investment scheme.

Linacre was charged with 21 counts of obtaining property by deception from 17 of his clients, as well as trust account violations. Linacre pleaded guilty to all charges and Chief Justice Marilyn Warren ordered that Linacre be struck off and banned from the profession for life, with the sentencing still to come.
