Baker & McKenzie adds competition practice in SA

August 7, 2014 Baker & McKenzie has launched it’s South African competition practice with the acquisition of local firm Vani Chetty Competition Law.

Name partner Vani Chetty and her entire team join Baker & McKenzie in Johannesburg, adding competition capacity to the firm’s existing in banking and finance, capital markets, corporate and M&A, projects and litigation.

Baker & McKenzie launched its presence in South Africa two years ago with the hire of a team from failed US firm Dewey & LeBoeuf, ad expanded in 2012 with the acquisition of litigation boutique Rudolph Bernstein & Associates.

With the addition of Chetty, Bakers’ Johannesburg partnership grows to 11 people, with a total staff of more than 75.
